The Choir is run by the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) and has English folk song at the heart of its repertoire. It is led by inspirational choir leader, Sally Davies, who composes most of the Choir’s arrangements. Since being formed by EFDSS in April 2008, Cecil Sharp House Choir has become known for its spirited and moving renditions of traditional songs. The Choir concentrates on singing a capella folk and traditional songs from Britain and beyond. It is un-auditioned and is for confident singers who are able to hold a tune and are keen to perform. There’s no need to read music – all songs are taught by ear. The Choir leader, Sally Davies, is a multi-talented vocalist, instrumentalist and composer with over 20 years’ experience as a workshop and choral leader. Cecil Sharp House Choir has gone from strength to strength, performing regularly at Cecil Sharp House and at a host of other venues and events such as at the British Library, the Southbank Centre (Chorus Festival, Tapping the Source), Voices Now festival at the Roundhouse, the National Maritime Museum, Oslo Musikkfest and the House of Commons.

The Choir is for confident singers over the age of 16 who are able to hold a tune, willing to memorise song lyrics and vocal parts, and committed to performing. We do not hold auditions but there is currently a waiting list. There's no need to read music as all songs are taught by ear and performed from memory.
Due to the popularity of the Cecil Sharp House Choir, places are currently allocated through a waiting list. To be added to this list, please submit our online registration form. Please note that the waiting list for the choir is currently quite long and, as such, it can take a few terms before a space becomes available.
