Founded in 1979, the Brussels Choral Society (BCS) is the largest amateur symphony choir in Belgium and is a prominent part of the Belgian classical music scene. Truly an
international ensemble, the BCS boasts some 100 members from more than 20 countries. The choir is based in Brussels and has performed at the major concert venues throughout Belgium, including Antwerp, Bruges, Leuven and Liege, as well as international venues including Bonn, Cologne, London, Maastricht and Guildford.
The BCS has taken part in many music festivals, notably the Brussels Summer Festival, the Festival of Flanders and the Klara Festival.
The BCS performs a wide range of works, from J.S. Bach to Arvo Pärt with a particular
emphasis on the symphonic choral repertoire of the 18 th to the 20 th centuries and on the choral traditions of certain countries and regions. The past few years have seen the BCS perform a remarkable range of works, including much-loved classics of the choral repertoire with more recent and unexpected discoveries, maintaining a freshness and dynamism for audiences and singers alike. Recent accomplishments include Haydn’s Schöpfung, Mendelssohn’s Elias and sell-out performances of Verdi’s Requiem in Bonn and Brussels, as well as a-cappella programmes with Nordic, Baltic or North American music.
The choir rehearses on Thursdays from 19:30 to 22:00 at École Saint Boniface, rue du Conseil 59, 1050 Ixelles. We take a break in the summer between late June and mid August. You are more than welcome to come along to a rehearsal and get a first impression of our choir.
Singers are required to attend all rehearsals, although we understand circumstances can make this difficult. Each voice part has a representative who will discuss any issues with you as they arise and who gives direct input and feedback to the Musical Director.
